Start date for ‘Stargate’ announced
Deadline set for regional, local and national administrations to put their services and information online.
KB – 11/2018
‘Regulation
(EU) 2018/1724 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 2 October 2018 establishing
a single digital gateway to provide access to information, to procedures and to
assistance and problem-solving services and amending Regulation (EU) No 1024/2012’
has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, Edition
L295 of 21 November 2018, Page 1 ff.
The
EU wants the gateway to be a way for administrations to become service
providers for citizens and businesses. Users of the gateway should not only be
able to obtain a comprehensive overview of their rights and obligations under
national and EU legislation, but should also be able to submit applications
under the ‘once only’ principle. For cross-border procedures, existing data
should be used and automatically exchanged between authorities in the Member
States.
Member
States are required to make information available online by the end of 2020. By
the end of 2024, they must provide online access to certain administrative
procedures and in multiple languages, as well as link them to the central
European platform.
